No Thomas Aquinas this week, because life is crazy and grad school is crazier! So instead, I'm giving y'all a no-notes, off-the-cuff update on what my master's thesis is about and how it connects to things that are still happening today.
Content Warning and Historian's Note: To maintain historical source accuracy, the term "cross-dressing" is used to refer to women who wore men's clothes in the context of the early modern period. We would like to note that today, these folx would fall under a variety of categories, including but not exclusively: lesbians, trans men, masc-presenting women, and non-binary people. We do not condone the use of, and do not use this term, or other outdated terms, to refer to any person outside of this very specific historical context.

Two days late, but never short on historical facts! This week, our recovering post-Covid host chats about the longevity of the Waldensians, why they were considered heretics by the church, and how their existence disproves the trope of Martin Luther being the father of the Reformation.

Merry Meet!
I'm Crystalina Mae, the host of The Witchy Historian. I am a gender historian and graduate student of early modern French Empire and post-Reformation Christianity. My past research includes the intersectionality of race and gender, and post-Civil War human rights movements in the U.S.
I am also an avid reader, a musician and music fan, and a bonafide nerd at heart! I have four children, two dogs, and one cat. There is also an impressive library in my house, that is Dewey Decimaled to the best of my ability. I like exploring new restaurants and cool witchy shops, as well as going to conventions and festivals. I play a Halfling College of Swords Bard in a bi-weekly D&D campaign, and my life goal is to own a home with a hobbit hole and grill garden. There may also be a TARDIS in my future, but SPOILERS ;)
I hope you enjoy the podcast! Feel free to send me an email at thewitchyhistorian@gmail.com
